Beer Brewing and Juice Making

Does everybody look as awesome as we do while brewing?
This batch we were blessed to have our housemate Meghan brew with us.
This newest beer is an IPA that will be dry hopped with a few ounces of hops.

And just to make sure we are well balanced we make fresh juices in the morning
with homegrown produce.

Camping Trip to Idyllwild

Hiking the Devils Slide Trail
Mr. Pib was having a blast. Here he is taking a look from higher ground.
Stopping for a snack in the sun at the top of the trail.
We camped at Fern Basin. Man what a great campground. From our campsite we had a
view of the wonderful sunset and since we were here mid-week there was no one else around.

Connor Turns 2!

 The wonderful construction process.
Turning a cardboard toilet box into a Castle...

The construction crew and the completed project.

Connor enjoying his birthday castle.

Drip Irrigation

We Have Installed Drip Irrigation! Oh yah! Super stoked.
The garden area is approximately 60 feet X 90 feet.

And here are some of our transplants making themselves happy in their new home.
We have also seeded almost the whole bed, so hopefully in a couple months
our yard will be exploding with healthy organic food!

This is our worm pile and that is some of our organic food waste we are layering in
there for the worms to eat.

And a picture of Mr. Pib, because he is cute and loves to garden too.

Avocado Basil Sauce

2 medium size Avocados
2 medium size Spaghetti Squash
3 cloves garlic
Juice of 1 lemon
1 bunch basil
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
4 tblsp olive oil

Cut spaghetti squash in half and lather with olive oil.  Roast at 375 for around 45minutes.
Food process all the ingredients (except squash) until creamy.
When squash is soft to the poke of a fork scrape insides out into a bowl, it will be like noodles.
Mix with sauce and top with some finely chopped fresh basil.
Serve with fresh bread and a salad.
Super easy plant based dinner that tastes so good.
Finish the night with fresh baked vegan snicker doodles and a cold glass of beer.

Cheers!

Compost Delivered!!!!

Beginning our urban farm...
After we finished hauling all the mulch to the backyard we soon replaced that pile with a load of compost.

Not just any load...17yards of BombPost!!
The most rich, full of life compost you can find in San Diego.
Look at the richness of the compost compared to the existing, totally depleted soil.

After one full day of hauling compost
this is the small pile that remains.

This is our new garden bed filled with healthy worms and microorganisms.
This weekend will be planting our starts and sowing some new seeds too.
This is the newest addition to the garden family.  A Dechlorinator that attaches to
our garden hose and filters out the chlorine that's in the San Diego water supply.
Chlorine is a harmful chemical and kills off healthy organisms in our soil, which
is why we filter it out.

Pre-paddle
Post-paddle
Every year Surfrider puts on an event that gathers hundreds of people to
lovely Ocean Beach where we paddle around the longest concrete pier on the west coast.
The paddle is held to promote keeping our oceans clean.
So come down to OB next year and participate with us and then come over for dinner!
:)
