10,000 ft Elevation and 27 Weeks Pregnant

What a need weekend getaway! I feel revitalized from all that fresh air and green energy.
This was my home for the weekend
The most adorable puppy ever

How the belly has grown!
Snow, a bikini and an alpine lake...
Now I'm in heaven!

After a 3.5 mile hike up with over 2,000 feet elevation gain, a lake plunge
at the top was definitely necessary.

Homegrown Homegoods

The garden is a little wild right now. Sun has been beating down
and our schedules have been full but amazingly, the garden just keeps giving.

Greens & Herbs

Veggies galore

This year we tried our first run at growing dried beans, like the ones you buy in bulk sections.
We planted a few plants of 8 varieties and they all did great.
But man do I appreciate being able to buy beans in the bulk. It takes time to shuck each pod.
The full mason jars of beans look beautiful though.
We still have more to shuck.

Tomatoes have been abundant And we have been making homemade marinara sauce.

Pickle and Ferment

Wholly fermenting! We have been changing over the garden and harvesting lots of beets and some carrots too. But with their abundance I have been thinking of fun ways to preserve and consume them.  I have been busy pickling and fermenting.  Tonight I made pickled carrots, beet kvass and hibiscus kombucha.

Earlier this week we pickled beets, fermented beets, made sauerkraut, bottled black tea-lemon ginger kombucha. So come visit and eat some delicious food with us!

A Dinner Date with the Garden

The sunflowers and poppies spread throughout the yard are
volunteers, adding nice color throughout.
The brassica family is doing well this season, despite San Diego
experiencing a rather warm winter.
Above is a romanesco broccoli and to the left is a white broccoli.

Check out the bee pollenating the sunflower

Garlic!!!

More seed starts for spring and summer harvests.
